Arriving to Dubai

Dubai is one of those cities that’s impossible to miss if you’re looking for a mix of luxury and modern flair. Located on the southeastern coast of the Persian Gulf, it’s super easy to reach with its major international airport, Dubai International Airport (DXB). Whether you’re flying in from Europe, Asia, or the Americas, you’ll find direct flights to this cosmopolitan hub.

Once you’re in town, the best places to stay are around neighborhoods like Downtown Dubai, where you’ll find the iconic Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall. If you’re after a beachside experience, Jumeirah Beach and the Palm Jumeirah offer stunning sea views and plenty of high-end resorts. For a more cultural vibe, consider staying in Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood to dive into the city’s rich heritage.

Getting around Dubai is a breeze. The Metro is a sleek, efficient way to travel, with stations connecting major spots like the Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Marina. Taxis are plentiful and fairly affordable if you prefer a more direct route, and the city’s extensive bus system can get you almost anywhere you need to go. For a unique experience, try the traditional Abra boat ride across Dubai Creek to see the city from a different angle.

When it comes to food, Dubai’s dining scene is as diverse as its population. You can find everything from gourmet international cuisine to delicious street food. Don’t miss trying some authentic Emirati dishes like shawarma, falafel, and aromatic biryani. For a sweet treat, grab a date pastry or some fresh baklava.

Dubai is packed with must-see attractions. The Burj Khalifa offers breathtaking views from its observation deck, and the Dubai Mall is a shopping paradise with an indoor aquarium and ice rink. If you’re into thrills, check out the indoor ski slopes at Ski Dubai or the desert safaris just outside the city. For a taste of traditional Dubai, explore the souks—marketplaces where you can find everything from spices to gold.

So, whether you’re exploring futuristic landmarks or soaking up the sun on a beautiful beach, Dubai offers a mix of experiences that’ll make your visit unforgettable.

Tips to visit Dubai

Dubai is a city where you’ll meet locals known as Emiratis. When greeting someone, a simple “Hello” or “Hi” works, but “As-salamu alaykum” (peace be upon you) is also common. The main languages spoken are Arabic and English, so getting around is pretty easy.

People usually eat their meals around 7-9 AM for breakfast, 12-2 PM for lunch, and 7-10 PM for dinner. Business hours generally run from 9 AM to 6 PM, Sunday through Thursday, with Friday and Saturday as the weekend.

Tipping isn’t mandatory but is appreciated, usually around 10-15%. The local health system is modern and well-equipped, with both public and private options available. Dress code-wise, it’s best to dress modestly, especially in public areas—think casual but respectful. And if someone says “Yalla”, it means “let’s go” or “hurry up,” so keep an ear out for that!
